Let’s recap what happened in the sports world this weekend. Lets start with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Saturday August, 10th, the Steelers hosted their first preseason game of the year at Heinz Field where they played the New York Giants.  This game is supposed to be the game where th veterans warm up and the rookies get a taste of the NFL. This season we lost four starters including Casey Hampton, Keenan Lewis, James Harrison and Mike Wallace.  We also, lost some other key players like Max Starks and Ryan Munday.  Surprisingly, Munday got a chance to play against his former teammates in his first game since he plays for the Giants now.

Well I am sure every Steelers fan is not really pleased as to how the game went. As expected for the first preseason game there were many mistakes, and sloppy plays.  The game did not turn out in the Steelers favor as the Giants won 18-13.

There was a couple of stand out plays that stood out. One being by the rookie out of West Virginia University wearing #17, J.D. Woods, as he caught a high-flying ball that ended in an almost tragic tackle. As, his opponent tackled low flipping him around in the air, but he kept his composure and the ball to make the play.  Jarvis Jones, the Steelers number 1 draft pick also showed that he can soon fill the shoes of Harrison.  Needless to say, the whole team needs to work harder and it its back to the drawing boards for Coach Tomlin at camp this week.

pitpiratesWhat else happened this weekend? Well the Pittsburgh Pirates that sit at the top, got swept by the Colorado Rockies.  The Rockies came into the series 1-9 losing streak and the Pirates came in off a 5 game winning streak.  Well that all changed this weekend. They hold a three-game edge over St. Louis, and visit the Cardinals for a three-game series starting Tuesday night.

”We pack it up and we go,” Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. ”You honestly self-evaluate and move on and get ready to play in St. Louis.”

Hopefully the Pirates can keep their number one spot and sweep the Cardinals starting Tuesday night.

Well that is what went down with the City of Champions this weekend. Too bad neither team could pull out a win!
