Shelle Knows: Julius Randle Breaks Leg In The First Game Of The Season

Julius Randle being taken off the court on a stretcher after breaking his right leg.

The NBA started the 2014-2015 season Tuesday October 28th 2014 with some great matchups. The Lakers hosted the Rockets at the Staples Center. The Lakers not only lost the game but also lost their top draft pick Julius Randle to a broken leg. Lakers rookie forward Julius Randle, the team’s top draft choice in June, broke his right leg midway through the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s 108-90 loss to the Houston Rockets.

ESPN reported that Randle, the 19-year-old former University of Kentucky standout who was selected seventh overall in June, was driving to the basket when his right foot buckled and he collapsed on the court. Scott said he was told that other players heard a “pop” when Randle went down.

As the crowd went silent the Lakers veteran, Kobe Bryant went over to comfort Randle as he was laying there grabbing his leg.

“Even for myself, being a veteran and dealing with something like this, it’s tough,” said Bryant, who missed most of last season with two major injuries. “For him being a 19-year-old kid, it’s tough. That’s what we’re here for. We’re here to pick him up and take it day by day.”

In all my years of watching basketball I have never seen such common injury of a broken leg happen. It started with Kevin Ware, Paul George and now Julius Randle all in the 4th quarter of their games.

Bryant added that breaking your leg is a “fluke” injury.

“There’s nothing you can do about that. He worked extremely hard, he trained extremely hard. Then something like this happens, so you’ve kind of got to give yourself up to that and control what you can control, and what happens, happens. And now it’s on him to control how he handles this.”

The next morning Paul George tweeted Randle with some encouraging words letting him know to “trust the process” since he is going through the same thing as well.

Losing Randle is will affect the Lakers early on as it is hard to rebuild a franchise when you lose the top draft pick. We will see the steps the Lakers take from here.

Shelle Knows: Steelers Fans Monday Blues

Here we go again. Just when we thought the Steelers found their mojo they lose it. Coming off of last weeks win against the Panthers on the road, I am sure the Steelers fans thought they were on the right track. Especially since they were facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who happens to have the worst record in the NFL. This is the same team who was embarrassed on Thursday Night Football last week against the Atlanta Falcons.
So you would think that the Steelers would be able to take on the Buccs no problem right?
Well the game was a great game as Antonio Brown scored twice along with a touchdown from Heath Miller. Even with that the Buccs were still lurking close behind. I am sure the multiple 15yard penalties and missed kick gave the Buccs some room for a comeback. With the score at 24-20 with 54 seconds left on the clock, the Buccs had the ball after a short punt return.
The Buccs ran over the Steelers defense and scored leaving the Steelers with 7seconds on the clock.
At this moment every Steelers fan new this was the end of the game. Instead of going for a hail marry, the Steelers decided to play hopscotch with the football and ended the game with a Big Ben sack.

This left every fan in disbelief as to how you can be winning the whole game and lose it all with 54 seconds left against the worst team in the NFL.
Then here comes the Monday Steelers blues in the city. The office is quiet. There is an unspoken attitude that everyone has but tries not to show unless provoked. It is kind of hilarious how Pitt and the Pirates could lose but the city will only catch the blues when the Steelers lose.
So now it is time to do the blame game. Is the loss in result of the injuries of Ike Taylor and Jarvis Jones? Being that Harrison came back to cover Jarvis Jones absent, I do not feel that is to blame. Maybe it was the defense in all. There seems to be a desperate need of defensive backs and corners. Or is it Todd Hailey’s, the offensive coordinator, fault for the plays that were called at the end of the game? Will Mike Tomlin get blamed as well just for being the head coach?
Whatever the problem is I hope they make a drastic adjustment before next week game or the whole city of Pittsburgh might go on suicide watch (jokes people).

Shelle Knows:Steelers Bringing James Harrison Out Of Retirement!

James Harrison Making a Comeback

Looks like the recently retired James Harrison will be making a comeback in the black and gold. Harrison posted a video on Instagram talking to his sons, asking if they wanted him to play football again. At first they said no but after being explained that it would be with the Steelers they were all for it!  The caption of the video read “ill give it one more year.”
My guess is with the recent injury of Jarvis Jones, who replaced Harrison, the Steelers needed Harrison to step in. Harrison is a key player and would be a great asset to the defensive line. Im sure the Steelers fans will welcome him back with open arms.

Shelle Knows: Is There Life After The Steelers?

Ok there are so many domestic and drug use charges that have been back firing on athletes mostly of the African-American race. These charges that they faced in the past are costing them their jobs and I think it has gone too far. People thought that if they made a fuss about Ray rice being treated unfairly then maybe they would give him another chance. But nope, it when the exact opposite way. Now they are releasing everyone with previous charges of violence or drug use. The last two players happen to be former Steelers players.

Then I began to think of what actually happens to former Steelers players that were released. It’s so ironic that the Steelers released them and they moved on to other teams but now their career has been going downhill. Maybe there is no bright life after the Steelers.

Let’s take a look at where these players are now.

Joey Porter: Went to Miami and got hurt. His age caught up to him and now he came back to Pittsburgh to retire and become a defense coach.

Santonio Holmes: Was cut for drug use with Steelers and seem to be doing well with the New York Jets. Until the Jets cut him from the team saying he was a good player but a cancer in the locker room. He is now playing for the Chicago Bears.

Ryan Munday: No real issue with him. He also was released from the Steelers roster in 2013 and joined the New York Giants. Now has been traded to the Chicago Bears as well.

James Harrison: Was cut from the Steelers and went to play for the Cincinnati Bengal’s but actually never seen playing time. He recently came to Pittsburgh to retire a Steelers.

Chris Rainey: Had one hot year with the Steelers until he faced a domestic abuse charge in the off-season. The Steelers decided to release him. He got picked up by the cardinals but was just cut because of his past Domestic abuse charge.

Jonathan Dwyer: Was also released by the Cardinal as he is facing domestic abuse charges.

Isaac Redman: Was released from the team then retired from the NFL due to a spinal cord injury.

Rashard Mendenhall: He was released by the Steelers for disciplinary actions and then got picked up by the Cardinals as well.  He then decided to retire from the NFL in a public manner. He currently is working on writing for a HBO series.  I guess he chose to do something he had more desire for . So a win for him. I just think if he stayed a Steelers then he would still be playing football.

Mike Wallace: He is probably the only one who has life after leaving the Steelers because of the deal he signed with Miami. The only thing that will keep him down is the fact that he as being exposed on the field. They are saying that he is not a talented as people thought he was. Yes he is fast and can go for the deep passes but not useful anywhere else.

I am sure there are more but these are the ones who came to mind when I thought about how people careers became unstable after leaving the Pittsburgh Black and Gold Steelers!

Shelle Knows: Florida State QB Jameis Winston Suspended First Half Of Game For Sexual Comment

Jameis Winston

Here we go again!

So some of you may have come across the popular video that went viral about the guy who grabs the mic and scream “F*** her right in the P****. Well I guess Jameis Winston felt that he would entertain those in the FSU cafeteria and say the same thing while standing on the table. Of course if this was a regular student at the university it would not have been heard of but Winston isn’t your average student.

This is the Heisman winner; star QB for a highly profiled school. Not to mention he just beat rape charges last season and was caught stealing crab legs from a local grocery store. Doing this was not anything major but it is not a good look for someone who was accused of rape at the university before.

Once Winston understands that his simple actions are being monitored and ridiculed then he will make better decisions. He is only 20 years old but when you become a public figure you have to mature a little faster than your average person if you want to be a success.

In result to this action Winston will be suspended for the first half vs. Clemson on Saturday.

Shelle Knows: The Rise Of Abuse Cases In The NFL

Is abuse the new wave in the NFL this season or is it since one incident was exposed then they all are getting exposed. I am sure everyone has heard about the three recent incidents with Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Ray McDonald. For a quick recap, Rice was caught on camera hitting his then fiancé, Peterson was arrested for beating his four-year old son and McDonald was accused for abusing his pregnant girlfriend.

All three of these players are currently facing suspensions and two are facing pending charges for their actions as well.

What I would like to know is why all of a sudden is this new the wave of charges that is being handed out in the NFL. I feel like a couple of months ago it was the enhancement drug cases and now it’s the abuse cases.

Each player in the NFL signs a code of conduct contract and also agrees to the terms of substance abuse. When do the players get to the point where they feel as if they shouldn’t uphold to these standards that they agree upon? With that same thought a contract for your job should not be the reason why you should not abuse others or use illegal substance.

Beating a woman should never happen. Beating a 4-year-old child with a whip should never happen. Many can argue about how men can be provoked and children need discipline which is both true but I feel as if those are last results.

Ray Rice

In regards to the Rice situation there were many of opportunities to walk away. If he felt as if he was being attacked that night before getting on the elevator then why even get on the elevator. What satisfaction did he get from almost killing his then fiancé? He may have not meant to hit her as hard as he did but he had no remorse after he knocked her out. He dragged her body like she meant nothing to him. So I believe the lack of remorse is what cost him his job rather than the actual action. I feel as if he would have reacted better then he would have not have gotten such a harsh back lash.

Ray McDonald

Ray McDonald, who is the star player for the San Francisco 49ers, story that was just released about him beating his pregnant fiancé. He was arrested after his birthday party for allegedly abusing his fiancé. Some may expect his punishment to be harsher than Rice because she was pregnant too but the difference is that there is no video proof. I believe this story would have got blown over if the explosion of the Rice case never happened. You would have heard allegations but eventually it would have went away.

Adrian Peterson

The case with the Minnesota’s Vikings player Adrian Peterson beating his 4-year-old son is a little tricky only because some discipline their children differently. At the age of four, I don’t believe that switches should be used but a good ole fashion spanking to discipline a child can be used. Sometime time outs and slap on the hands do not work for children who test their parent’s authorities. I feel as if Peterson should have chosen to use the hand to bottom beating technique if that makes it better, but to use a switch is harsh for a four-year old. None the less I do not think those are grounds for suspension with the league.

Once again all because the Rice issue was not handled well then every incident that happens now will be put under a microscope.

Moral of this story is take that one more second to think before you react because there will always be a harsher punishment if you chose the wrong reaction.
