Shelle Knows: Guess Who’s Back??

Hellooooo Shelle Knows Readers!

I am back! I know I know, I have been away for a while now and not on purpose but life just got so busy I had to make sure I stayed on track. So let’s see what’s new. As of January 15th I started my Masters of Science in Management and I am currently passing in my 5th class now. Five down and hopefully only five more to go before I have my Masters in Management. I decided to take this road toward my master because I always wanted to go into Sports Management and I figured I needed some classes to enhance my knowledge and skills. So if you every feel as if you want to grow and the opportunities are not jumping at you as you would like then re-evaluate yourself and see what you think is missing that you could add to in order to become more marketable.(this was not a plug in tell you all to get some sort of plastic surgery either) Just saying lol.

So as I have been busy with working and going back to school I have also been testing the waters of event planning. I had the opportunity to not only be in 2 of my best friends weddings these past couple of weeks but I also had the opportunity in helping plan one of the weddings. It allowed me to see how far I could actually take my business. I will share some pictures below so you can see some of the arrangement I made for the wedding. I have to say they turned out beautifully!!

Now that summer is here I have had the opportunity to take a couple vacations so far but I am looking most forward to going back to Vegas for the 4th of July. A couple of friends and I have decided that we were going to take a break from business and let our hair down for once. We are constantly planning, working and making sure everything is in order that we just wanted a care free weekend with just the girls. Do not worry I will make sure I have enough fun for all of you as well.

Once all that is done it is back to grind time where I will be blogging about football camps, rumor reports of course, and the latest news in the sports world while continuing my Master and working full time. I have goals to reach and dreams to make come true so its GRIND TIME HUNNY!

Shelle Knows: D Wade and Now Mrs.Gabrielle Union-Wade

Mr and Mrs. Wade

Over the weekend Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade tied the knot in a beautiful location that even the guest were surprised to arrive at. Saturday Aug 30, 2014, Union and Wade were married at the stunning Chateau Artisan castle in a black-and-white themed affair. The men guest wore black tuxedo’s with a gifted bow tie by wade and the ladies wore white gowns. Union also wore a white gown in which was designed by Dennis Basso gown from Kleinfeld Bridal.

Many of the details for the big day were decided by the groom, Union revealed to Ellen DeGeneres this past February.

“Secretly this is his princess moment,” she joked of her love’s wedding planning joy. “He has waited for this for a long time. He’s been hoarding bridal magazines. He’s very ready… Every aspect — aspects I didn’t even know went into wedding planning — he is on. To have a centerpiece or not have a centerpiece? He has very strong opinions. No centerpieces. Who cares? He does!”

Wade Family

Carmelo and Lala Anthony

We do know that John Legend sang at the wedding with his signature melody “All of Me.” There were not may pictures released from the wedding as the bride and groom made sure of and revealed a couple of pictures of their own. There were a lot of high-profile guest like athletes , colleagues, artist, actresses and actors.

This is the second marriage for Wade, who was previously married to his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches from 2002 to 2007. It is also Union’s second marriage, as she was wed to NFL player Chris Howard from 2001 to 2005.

It is so nice to see black love come together no matter the break up, hard trials or busy schedule. Love in this case trumps everything and I wish them many years of love.

Shelle Knows: Steelers Running Backs Charge With Possession Of Marijuana

LeGarrette Blount

LeGarrette Blount and Le’Veon Bell

Let’s all imagine we are a Steelers player who is active on the roster making millions of dollars. Would you decide to take the risk to smoke marijuana two hours before you had to catch a flight to your job?

Well I guess two of the Steelers running backs did not see the harm in that until they got caught. Yes, two hours before the two running backs, Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were to board the flight to Philadelphia, they were pulled over because the officer smelled weed coming from the car. Both were arrested for possession but Bell was also charge with a DUI. There was a female companion in the car as well but no one really cares what happened to her because she isn’t a multi-millionaire who plays for the Steelers.

So moving on.

Since Bell was charged with a DUI as well he missed the chartered flight to Philadelphia and provided his own transportation to Philadelphia.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin met with the players Thursday morning as he decided how to proceed, and a source says that it will be “business as usual” for Bell and Blount because the Steelers have a lot to work on offensively.

We could go back and forth and argue it is just weed but let’s not forget that the substance is still illegal. Remember, the Steelers traded Santonio Holmes who caught the Super Bowl winning touchdown because of marijuana found in his system. So, I am sure Bell and Blount are scared for what may happen to them even though no actions have been taken as of now. The choice to either smoke an illegal substance or risk losing your job is not a hard decision no matter how much you make.

The choice is yours fellas.

Shelle Knows: Show Me The Mo’ne!

Mo’ne Davis

For the past week I have tuned into the Little League World Series for one reason and one reason only and her name is Mo’ne Davis. Davis is a 13-year-old African-American girl who plays in the Little League World Series. She is the pitcher for the Taney Dragons who everyone took notice because of her fast ball pitch.

Davis has pitched a shutout during the tournament and continues to use her skills to get her team through the tournament. Last night’s game against Nevada was an ok game for the pitcher Davis as she was pulled out early and lost 8-1.

“Mo’ne didn’t have her ‘A’ game today,” Philly manager Alex Rice said. “At this point, we’re playing to get to Saturday.”

The thing that is so special about Mo’ne Davis is that she is just the 18th girl to play in the Little League World Series and the only one to win a game on the mound. She throws a fast ball at about 70mph.

During this year’s tournament, Mo’ne cemented her place in history books as the first girl to pitch a shutout in a Little League World Series game, and the first little leaguer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Salute to you little miss Mo’ne! Keep doing your thing!

Shelle Knows: Johnny Manziel Of The Cleveland Browns Flips The Bird To Redskins Sideline

Johnny Manziel Flips Off Redskin Bench

As we are in the midst of the NFL preseason with only a couple of weeks left till regular season starts, the Browns and Redskins took the field. During the off-season the Browns made a couple great moves and drafting key players like Jonny Manziel as quarterback to help the team have a winning season.

Manziel did not and has not lived up to the expectations of many fans as of yet in this preseason. He is competing for the starting position against Brian Hoyer. On a second-and-7 play, Manziel dropped back, rolled left to escape the rush and threw across his body just before reaching the sidelines. The pass to Jonathan Krause was incomplete.

With 2:28 left in the third quarter, Manziel jogged back towards the bench and he seemed to have heard some things from the Redskins bench that did not sit well with him. Manziel then extended his middle finger over his right shoulder toward the bench. Of course this gesture was caught on camera because it was a Monday night football game where every camera is already watching Manziel’s moves. Manziel said he had “words exchanged” with the Redskins and that he should have been smarter.

Manziel had struggled throughout the game going 5-for-13 for 49 yards and one sack before the gesture.

When asked about his actions in the post game interview he said,

“I felt like I did a good job of holding my composure throughout the night, and you have a lapse of judgment and slip up.”

The Brown coach, Mike Pettine was informed of the gesture after the game and was not very pleased.

“That’s a big part of all football players, especially the quarterback, that we have to keep our composure,” Pettine said. “So that’s something that we’ll obviously address with him.”

Manziel was not penalized, but the NFL no doubt will review the tape, and Manziel will be subject to an $11,025 fine. He can appeal his first fine, and it can be limited to 25 percent of a weekly check of close to $6,200.

For a player who is working to become a starter and a leader, this is not the right way to show your coach you are ready. Manziel needs to understand that what was tolerated in college will not be over looked in the professional league. When the decision comes to choose a starter I am sure this action will play a big role as if he is ready to become the Browns leader.

Be smarter Jonny Football.

Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter was used in this report.

Shelle Knows: Just A Quickie

Hey guys, I’m back! I know I have been gone for a little longer than I expected. Let’s catch up a little then. Since the last time I have blogged I was in the midst of starting a new position where I hold a lot of responsibility, so it limits the time I have to write. No excuses though I think I have settled in well enough where I can share all my views and opinions with you all now.
Let’s not get confused though. Just because I have not been blogging does not mean I haven’t been tuned in on the ups and downs of what has been happening throughout the sports world. In my opinion I see a lot of things have been getting very “messy.”
Affairs, racism, betrayal, and petty social media arguments.

Donald Sterling and Mistress (long black hair)

Donald Sterling and Mistress (long black hair)

Let’s recap; Donald Sterling is an ignorant idiot who happens to represent what most owners believe in and out of the sports world. I am not surprised by any of his remarks only because this is not the first I have ever heard one speak of minorities in such a degrading manner. This man is a very elderly rich man who was stripped of something that could have lived in his family for years. Now he feels the need to fight back but for what? You were caught red-handed and exposed by your side chick who happens to be a minority. You said it now stand by it!
But oh well next.

Paul-GeorgeIf you have followed me the past two NBA season you would know that the love I have for Paul George from the Indiana Pacer’s is borderline DELUSIONAL. Yes, I will admit it but anyways… He has caught HELL this season on and off the court. He has been wrapped up in stripper baby mama rumors and has been exposed by a “gay” man. George has responded to those rumors and does not deny that he may be the father to the strippers baby. He owned up to the fact that there is a possibility that she is carrying his baby. Also, George stated that the pictures of him naked are pictures of him but was not catfished and exposed by a gay man. He says he knows the “bitter” female who has leaked the pictures and those rumors has since died down.
Now that the Pacers have survived the first round of the NBA finals against the Atlanta Hawks, George is being blamed for the lack of help and talent Roy Hibbert has been producing in these finals. Before the playoffs Hibbert stated that there were ball hogs on the teams insinuating that he was referring to George. Now a rumor surfaced that George slept with Hibbert’s girlfriend (whoever his girlfriend may be).
Once again, Paul George took to Instagram to clear up the false rumor and posted a picture of his teammates Hibbert, Hill, and himself fishing hashtags Brothers. The only thing the Pacer’s need to focus on is building Hibbert’s confidence back so that they can make it past the Washington Wizards and continue on.
Next up, Floyd Money Mayweather.
97371980JJ006_FLOYD_MAYWEATFriday, May 2nd 2014 before Mayweather’s PPV fight on Saturday, Mayweather decided to stir the pot on social media with his ex, Ms. Jackson. He exposed the fact that the real reason the two broke up was because she aborted his twins because she did not want to lose her figure. Mayweather said he does not believe in abortions and felt she was being selfish. Well since Ms. Jackson is now dating Nelly the rapper. Mayweather threw fire his was and started social media frenzy. In my opinion Ms. Jackson is foolish for aborting babies because she did not want to mess up her figure. That was just plain old stupid of her and Mayweather was very petty in how he dealt with the situation.
Point. Blank. Period.
Of course there is much more we could discuss but I’ll save that for a more formal post.
Until then this is enough until the next scandal I’m sure.

Shelle Knows: Kobe Byant Comments About Trayvon Martin

Kobe-Bryant-30000-Points-e1354826718678So, in Kobe’s past interview with the New Yorker’s Ben McGrath he discussed how the Miami Heat collectively taking Trayvon Martin’s side in the George Zimmerman case represented a reflexive racial reaction. The team posed for a provocative picture in hoodies in homage to the slain Florida teenager two years ago.

“I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” Bryant told the magazine. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well… then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.”

miami-heat-trayvon-martin-hoodiesKobe has been known to make absurd comments on different situation whether they are about race, sports, or humanity.  As a profound “Kobe Lover” I have to say that even this turned me off. As I read his statement about not jumping to support Trayvon because he is black I was taken back but then kind of understood. Kobe is right that as a society we should always pay attention to the facts and not the race when dealing with situations such as Trayvon Martin’s.  He stated correctly that we as a society need to pay attention to the facts as to what happened that night and then take a stand based upon the facts that were put out there.

Where I disagree with Kobe is the insensitivity that he displayed in the interview.  First to knock the stand that Miami heat took for Trayvon Martin was not in good taste.  I understand that Kobe may not agree with the stand and he is entitled to his own opinion whether we like it or not but he should have not smugged the Heat for what they decided to do for Trayvon.

I would have also thought that some compassion would have been shown for a young black male after hearing the FACTS. As we know Kobe grew up in Italy before playing high school basketball in Philadelphia.  I can not comment on how it is for a young black male to be raised in Italy but here in America it is a daily fight to stay alive.

Black males are seen to be scary criminals when coming in contact with other races.  They see black men as being intimidating and up to no good.  So if Kobe was in Martin’s place im sure the outcome would be no different. They fail to see black men as individuals and more so as a feared race.  Regardless, killing black men based upon yourself feeling threatened is not right.

If you feel threatened then walk to other way.

Trayvon did not come after Zimmerman.

 Zimmerman came looking for Trayvon.

Kobe should have a little more compassion and respect for his race and for the Martin family when giving such a opinionated interview.

After the fact Kobe Bryan did come back and say Trayvon Martin was WRONGED but I feel as if he should have made that clear in the interview.
